Melilotus, known as melilot[3][4] or sweet clover is a genus of legumes in the family Fabaceae, native to Europe, Asia, and Africa. [1] The genus is closely related to Trifolium (clovers).
The scientific name Melilotus comes from the Latin Mel (honey) and Lotus, another genus within the Legume family. It is a popular species for honey production (Baldridge and Lohmiller, 1990).
