The fanous has long been one of the most recognizable symbols of Ramadan. For many families, it once marked the beginning of the month, lighting up streets, balconies, and children’s hands long before the first day of fasting. But when we asked kids today what they think of the fanous, many said it doesn’t matter much to them. It’s no longer something they wait for every year, or see as essential to Ramadan. This shift says a lot about how traditions change with time. The fanous is still part of
