The ileal break is an interesting phenomenon. Experiments were done by placing tubes in people’s noses and dripping different macronutrients into the distal bowel. This caused a release of GLP1 and resulted in fullness. We see a similar response when we do a bypass surgery. By directing food to the lower part of the small intestine we get a GLP 1 response.
